| "How lovely to be in a parish by the sea! And a very wholesome one at that! The image of the church on this colourful site has brought memories flooding back…..
It wasn’t a case of love at first sight though. The chapel in Downs Road took a bit of getting used to, but as the advantage of its design became apparent, our liking for it grew. Newcastle was for many years our family’s favourite holiday spot. Most of our time was spent on the beach or the promenade and we often went to Donard Park, taking the well- trodden path by the steep banks of the Shimna. To this day woodland smells and the sight of mighty pines and other evergreens evoke happy holiday memories spent in the kingdom of Mourne.
