The beautiful Parish of Maghera is one of 88 parishes in the Diocese of Down and Connor. Located in the south east of County Down in the north of Ireland, the parish is located in the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which has been immortilised in song by the eighteenth century poet and song writer Percy French.
The largest town in the parish is Newcastle which sits at the foot of Slieve Donard, the highest of the twelve peaks which comprise the Mountains of Mourne and the highest mountain in Northern Ireland.
The Parish of Maghera is a faith community rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The parish is centred around its two churches, Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Newcastle and St. Patrick's Church in Bryansford which serve the people of Newcastle, Bryansford and surround rural area.
